159 HEURISTIC
We haven't given enough consideration to display heuristics. Perhaps this would help: In information retrieval there is a middle-man stage between the author and the enquirer which is occupied by the librarian. The librarian provides the enquirer with an index directed toward the needs of the enquirer. Displays ought to be analogous to the role of librarian. (Obviously the situation becomes dialectic, it doesn't entail making the enquirer comfortable).
